ANZAC Illustrated touring exhibition at Eskbank House Museum

To commemorate ANZAC Day and the centenary of WWI, Eskbank House Museum presents ANZAC Illustrated, a touring exhibition of illustrations from contemporary Australian children’s books about war and conflict, opening on Saturday 17 March 2018.

Curated by Books Illustrated, the exhibition will feature works by thirteen illustrators, including Shaun Tan and Michael Camilleri among others. A feature on the work of author and illustrator Mark Wilson will survey a range of his books exploring different wars – from WWI to Afghanistan.

“This exhibition explores the creative ways artists have sought to help children connect with very difficult but important concepts and moments in Australian history,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Stephen Lesslie.
Original illustrations, developmental sketches, reference images, and art materials will be on display, revealing the artists’ process in translating these complex themes and stories for children.

“The exhibition is suitable for families and offers an opportunity for children to explore the stories of ANZACs,” Cr Lesslie said.
The exhibition continues at Eskbank House Museum until Sunday 29th April 2018.
