The 2015 new school year has begun and Lithgow City Council is reminding drivers to slow down and take care around school zones.
Term 1 of the new school year is well underway and this means that designated school zones are back in effect. Parking restrictions apply in school zones to help keep children safe. They protect sight distances, provide safe pick up and drop off opportunities and minimize confusion where children are crossing roads.
Lithgow Mayor Maree Statham said today “Council Rangers and local Police will be patrolling school zones to enforce parking restrictions and illegal road user behaviour. Take note of the parking zones around your local school as fines and loss of demerit points can apply” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham.
“Speeding and illegal parking in school zones places our children at risk and I call upon all road users to be especially careful when picking up, dropping off or passing by school zones” concluded the Mayor.
