Blue Green Algae Alert at Lake Wallace

Lake Wallace is currently experiencing blue green algae, and a red alert has been issued by the NSW Office of Water.

“Indications are that the presence of Blue Green Algae in Lake Wallace is set to continue in the foreseeable future and the NSW Office of Water has issued a red alert for the lake. As a result Lake Wallace is currently not suitable for any activities that involve direct contact with the water by humans or animals” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham.

Weekly sampling of the Lake will continue and an updated alert status will be reported regularly. Information on algae alerts is available from the algal information line maintained by the NSW Office of Water, at 1800 999 457 or the NSW Office of Water web page at

Caring for our community is one of the principal activity areas adopted in the Lithgow Community Strategic Plan 2026.
