Blue Green Algae has again bloomed at Lake Wallace with a red alert been issued by the NSW Office of Water.
“The Lake had improved and was steady at amber level for some weeks and was even at green level for a short time. However, the latest results issued by the NSW Office of Water have indicated that the levels have risen again and a red alert has been put back in place” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham.
“As a result Lake Wallace is currently not suitable for any activities that involve direct contact with the water by humans or animals” added Mayor Statham.
Weekly sampling of the Lake will continue and an updated alert status will be reported regularly. Information on algae alerts is available from the algal information line maintained by the NSW Office of Water, at 1800 999 457 or the NSW Office of Water web page at www.water.nsw.gov.au.
Caring for our community is one of the principal activity areas adopted in the Lithgow Community Strategic Plan 2026.
