Lake Wallace is currently experiencing blue green algae, and a Red alert has been issued by the NSW Office of Water.
“With the presence of blue green algae in the water, Lake Wallace is not suitable for any activities that involve direct contact with the water by humans or animals” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lesslie.
Whilst not as serious as Lake Wallace at the moment, Lake Lyell is currently at an Amber level. Sampling of the Lakes is continuing and an updated alert status will be reported when information becomes available.
More information on algae alerts is available from the algal information line maintained by the NSW Office of Water, at 1800 999 457 or the NSW Office of Water web page at www.water.nsw.gov.au.
