Council’s Economic Development Committee is seeking community representatives to join a working party to assist Council in understanding the factors surrounding the decline in retail and to propose strategies to assist retail in the Lithgow Local Government Area.
Following the recent valuable work by two volunteer working parties assisting Council on Tourism and Events, Council is now forming a working party to assist in researching the factors underlying the continuing decline in retail and to suggest strategies in response.
Lithgow Mayor Councillor Stephen Lesslie said today “There has been a global trend in the decline of the Retail Sector and the Lithgow Local Government Area has not been immune to this. In order to implement strategies to assist retail businesses, Council needs to understand why the retail sector at International, National and Regional levels has been subject to change over the last few years. A working party can assist Council in identifying the causes through research and report back in the context of a large amount of commentary already existing on this subject.”
“Council is seeking expressions of interest from community members to participate in the working party on the Retail Sector for a three month period. The working party will report its findings to Council’s Economic Development Committee” added Mayor Lesslie.
A copy of the working party Terms of Reference and background material is available for view at http://council.lithgow.com/download/10315/. A background report is also available for view in Item 3 of the Council business paper http://council.lithgow.com/download/10283/.
Any interested community member is invited to register their interest together with their background and experience by way of email to email@example.com
Expressions of interest will be received up until 4.30pm on Friday 11 May 2018. As it will be proposed to consult with the retail sector separately, it would be preferred that applicants be independent of the Lithgow Retail Sector and as numbers will be limited, Council reserves its right to restrict allocation of members where the membership of the working party is full.
