Function and art to combine at Cook St Plaza’s new public toilet

The design for the new public toilet at Cook St Plaza was chosen not only to provide a much needed facility in the heart of the Lithgow town centre but also to enable the whole structure to become a piece of dynamic public artwork.

With the imminent completion of the new public toilet, Lithgow Council is now starting a competition to generate a collection of photographic images that can be transposed onto the walls and doors of the new toilet structure.

Lithgow Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham explained “A special feature of the buildings design is the opportunity for the walls to incorporate artworks including photographic images.  These images can be changed every so often to promote our special events and key tourist destinations right across the Lithgow LGA.”

Council is calling on locally based based photographers to submit images of popular local events, promotions and tourism destinations that can be incorporated into the final presentation of the building’s facades.  The entrant supplying the image selected to be used as the inaugural artwork on the building will receive a $200 voucher to be spent at a local business.

The following criteria apply to potential entrants:

  • You must reside within the Lithgow Local Government Area (LGA).
  • The images must be of recent events or promotions or key tourism destinations – all occuring or located within the Lithgow LGA.
  • You must be able to submit your images electronically – initially as a low resolution image (not exceeding 5MB) but then be able to supply the potentially chosen image as a high resolution JPEG minimum 300 dpi.
  • You must be able to sign a “Release for the Use of the Photographs” form which you will receive after submitting your images.

During the competition period submitted images may also be posted on Councils facebook pages www.facebook.com/revitaliseLithgow and www.facebook.com/lithgowtourism.  Please submit your images via email to matthew.brewster@lithgow.nsw.gov.au by 12 June 2015.
