Grandparents Day Celebrations

The community is invited to Grandparents Day celebrations at Lithgow Library on Monday 26 October 2015 with a story time session, arts and craft workshop and morning tea.

“Grandparents Day highlights the vital role grandparents play in our community,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham. “They are our mentors, friends, story tellers, keepers of family traditions and memories, volunteers, and in some cases, the primary carers of their grandchildren. Grandparents Day is all about saying ‘thank you’ to our grandparents because they are the backbone of so many families.”

NSW Grandparents Day is a State funded initiative that recognises the importance of grandparents and the contributions they make to the community as a whole, and acknowledges the irreplaceable role grandparents have within their own families.

“I encourage grandparents to come along with their grandchildren to foster this unique connection, and spend some quality time together,” continued the Mayor.

Everyone is welcome to come along to the Lithgow Library on Monday 26 October 2015 from 10.30am – 12.00pm for this free special event. For more information please contact Council’s Community Development Officer on 6354 9909.

Celebrating the contribution to the community by our senior residents forms part of Councils Caring for our Community Strategies in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
