Library Lovers Join in the Celebrations!

It wasn’t Valentine’s Day on February 14 in the Library World, it was Library Lovers Day and Lithgow Library celebrated a little earlier, on Friday the 13th.

A large number of “Library Lovers” joined Library staff and Council representatives for morning tea to help the staff thank their valued ‘lovers’, with one singled out for special attention as the Library’s “Greatest Lover”.

Dorothy Luchetti is Lithgow Library Learning Centre’s greatest Library Lover for 2015. Dorothy has had a very long association with the Lithgow Library which started when she was 11 years old and rode her bike to the Library almost every day during school holidays to borrow books. That association continues today with Dorothy and husband John still being regular borrowers. Dorothy believes that without the Library she would not have become the reader that she is today.

In the 1990’s Dorothy was one of the main supporters of creating a “Friends of the Library” group, which sadly did not come to fruition at that time, but has done so in recent years. Lithgow Library Learning Centre would like to thank everyone who supports the Library and let them know that it was a very difficult task to choose just one lover from everyone who was nominated and hopes that members will nominate themselves again next year.

Lithgow Library Learning Centre and the branches at Wallerawang and Portland would like to remind everyone that it is simple to become a Library lover. The Library is free to join and most of the services are free. So why not drop in and talk to staff about what the Library can do for you and you too may become one of our “Greatest Lovers”.

Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham was thrilled that “Our Library is taking an occasion that is usually considered only for couples and creating an event for the community that emphasizes the important role the Library plays in the life of the people of Lithgow’s LGA”.

Providing a range of quality exhibitions and community programs that offer educational and social opportunities for all members of the community is part of Council’s Caring for the Community Strategy in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
