Yes that’s right; this year’s target is 166 gifts. That’s the number of residents in our local nursing homes and that’s the number of gifts we will need to make each and every one of those resident’s Christmas a little brighter.
“Each year Council coordinates this wonderful appeal which brings so much joy to the residents of our local nursing homes” Said Mayor Lesslie. “The gifts are hand delivered by myself and Council staff to all of the residents. I enjoy meeting everyone, having a chat and seeing the smiles on their faces as they open their gift which has been generously donated by a member of the community”.
Mayor, Stephen Lesslie is calling on the community to once again provide small donations of gifts for the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal. Gift numbers can fluctuate, however, at present the target is 117 gifts for ladies and 49 gentlemen’s gifts.
Hand crafted gifts, gifts that provide visual and sensory stimulus suitable for Alzheimer’s patients, socks, non-allergenic personal care products, books, videos or soft lollies and chocolates are welcomed by the residents.
In the past, some residents have used this as an opportunity to clean out their cupboards of unused items and or re-gift unwanted gifts. Please DO NOT do this as these items are generally unsuitable.
Donations can be dropped off at Council’s Administration Building or any one of Council’s libraries by Friday 24 November (please do not wrap). They will be bundled and wrapped for distribution to residents at Tanderra, Cooinda, Tabulam Cottages and Three Tree Lodge in early December”.
