Neville Castle , Mayor welcomes State Budget announcements on spending directly into communities.

“I am very pleased to see the announcement in the NSW State budget regarding directly funding communities. This has been a gap in the funding framework for the country and it is good to see the State Government redressing this,” said Neville Castle Mayor

“The funding goes electorate by electorate where every electorate gets $300,000 and some get another $100,0000 because they have been identified as needing the extra to help boost employment,” said Neville Castle Mayor

“Examples of projects that can be funded are upgrades to community halls, playgroup centres and senior citizens centres , charity facilities, art spaces and playgrounds , local environment initiatives like community gardens, cycle ways and walkways, skate parks, community barbecue facilities and dog parks, improvements to sporting fields like lighting, drainage and fencing,” said Neville Castle, Mayor

“This program is clearly designed for projects that are underway or shovel ready and aimed at stimulating job creation. Applications open on June 22 and close on August 10. This is a very short time frame and I encourage community groups to get into this as soon as possible,” said Neville Castle, Mayor

“ Projects will commence from late 2009 and must be completed by the end of December 2010. It is also good to see the bipartisan approach to this funding where application forms will be available from all NSW Members of Parliament and can also be downloaded online at,” said Neville Castle, Mayor

“It is great to see money going directly to community groups. Councils can apply too and I would be interested in hearing what the community would be interested in applying for. For Councils we will have to put up 50% where for community groups the program encourages groups to contribute in cash or in kind, ” said Neville Castle, Mayor
