See Australia’s Fastest Women….

The Lithgow City Council, in conjunction with NSW Athletics League and major sponsors will host the 2010 Lithgow Flash Gift. The Lithgow Flash Gift is a highlight of the NSW Athletics League’s season for 2010.

In only the second year the 2009 ‘Lithgow Flash Gift ’was voted Carnival of the Year by NSW Athletic League for 2008-09.

Mrs Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AC MBE CVO, has fully endorsed “The Lithgow Flash Gift” and the Lithgow Flash Gift 2010 includes the largest prize money for a women’s sprint event in Australia and will attract the fastest sprinters from Australia and New Zealand.

The Lithgow Flash Gift will be held at the Tony Luchetti Showground, Lithgow, on Saturday 6 March 2010 and will have a full day’s program of events including Little Athletics throughout the morning and the feature Lithgow Flash Gift women’s sprint, the Men’s Lithgow Gift 120m, Women’s Handicapped 200m, Men’s Handicapped 300m, Wheelchair events, Zig Zag Mile and the Valley Challenge.

Mayor Neville Castle said, “With the fantastic success of the 2009 Lithgow Flash Gift, Lithgow City Council together with the NSW Athletics League and major sponsors Centennial Coal, Westfund, and Delta, are looking forward to the 2010 event. Lean & Bennett, C & W Printing, Imag, Madjestic Tours and Welch’s Smash Repairs are also supporting the event with sponsorship. The 2010 Lithgow Flash Gift is set to be a major event on the Lithgow Sporting Calendar, it will not only attract visitors for the event but continue Lithgow’s long history of producing and supporting some of Australia’s finest Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes.

“Attractive sponsorship packages are still available for businesses to support this great event. Sponsorship packages include media coverage and promotional activities leading up to the event and display areas with reserved seating on the day.

“Lithgow City Council were very pleased with the 2009 event with a great turnout and participation from locals on the day.

With the event moved to a Saturday for 2010 it will allow visitors to the area to make a weekend of it and explore the region and enjoy the autumn colours”.

Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, “The Lithgow Flash” is one of Australia’s most decorated ladies of athletics. Marjorie was raised in Lithgow and trained under Jim Monaghan at the local Cinders Track. Her illustrious sporting credits include:

Gold medals Auckland Empire Games – 100 yards, 220yards, 440yards Medley Relay, 660yards Medley Relay

  • Gold Medals Helsinki Olympic Games – 100 metres and 200metres (World Record)
  • 1952 Outstanding Athlete award from the Helms Foundation (USA)
  • 1952 Recipient of the Australian Sportsman of the Year
  • 1954 Gold Medallist at Vancouver Commonwealth Games – 100 metres
  • Marjorie Jackson was the first Australian to win a gold on the track
