No Increase in Councillor Fees for 2020/21
At the 27 July 2020 meeting, Council set the Councillor and Mayoral fees at nil increase for the 2020/21 year.
The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal determines the amount of fees to be paid to Mayors and Councillors on an annual basis. For 2020/21 the Tribunal determined that there be no increase in the minimum and maximum fees applicable to each category of Council. Factors influencing the Tribunal’s decision included the impact of the bushfires and the current COVID-19 pandemic on the state and federal economies and the wellbeing of communities.
In view of the Tribunal’s decision and COVID-19 impacts on Council’s income and cashflow, Council has set Councillor fees at no increase for the 2020/21 year.
“Lithgow’s Councillor fees have historically been set at the lower end of the minimum and maximum range determined by the Tribunal”, said Lithgow City Council Mayor Ray Thompson. “Council had the option to increase Councillor fees within the allowed range”.
“Councillors are aware that community members are doing it tough after the bushfires and now with COVID-19. Councillors stand with our community in accepting no increase in their fees for the next 12 months.”
