Nominations Extended for the 2016 NSW Local Citizenship Awards

Nominations for the 2016 NSW Local Citizenship Awards have been extended until Friday 8 January 2016.

“To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to nominate their heroes for the Citizenship Awards, Council has extended the closing date for nominations to Friday 8 January 2015,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham.

The NSW Local Citizenship Award categories are:

  • Volunteer of the Year Award (Young Citizen and Open Citizen)
  • Achievement Award (Young Citizen and Open Citizen)
  • Service to the Community – Organisation Award
  • Recognition of Outstanding Event Award

The Volunteer of the Year Award is for people who have given their time freely to help the community both in Lithgow and elsewhere. The Achievement Award is for those who have excelled in their chosen field which may include academia, business, the arts and sciences or community service. The Young Citizen Category is for people between the ages of 16 and 26 while the Open Category is for all ages over 16 years.

The Service to the Community – Organisation Award is for organisations which aim to enrich the lives of the people in the Lithgow area.  This organisation does not have to be a volunteer organisation.

The Recognition of Outstanding Event Award will be given in recognition of the many events in Lithgow that are making such a difference to our town. Once nominations have been received, the public will asked to vote on their favourite event with the results to be revealed on Australia Day 2016.

Nomination forms are available from the front counter of the Lithgow City Council Administration Centre, Lithgow Library and Branches and online at http://council.lithgow.com/australia-day/. Please note that Council will be closed from 4.00pm Thursday 24 December until 8.15am Monday 4 January. Lithgow Library and branches will be closed for a similar period.  Voting for the People’s Choice Event of the Year will open on Wednesday 13 January 2016 and close on Friday 22 January 2016. Winners of all awards will be announced on Tuesday 26 January 2016 at the Australia Day Ceremony in Queen Elizabeth Park.

Providing a range of programs celebrating the cultural diversity and rich heritage of our local government area through the delivery of a diverse range of quality festivals and events is part of Council’s strategy to Care for our Community in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
