Nominations Open for the NSW Local Citizenship Awards

Nominations have opened for the NSW Local Citizenship Awards with the winners to be announced at the Australia Day 2016 Ceremony in Queen Elizabeth Park on Tuesday 26 January 2016.

“It is such a joy to be able to recognize the achievements of outstanding people and organisations in our community,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham. “I encourage you all to consider who your heroes are and to nominate them for the individual awards in volunteering and achievement. It is also great to see how many of our local organisations do so much for the community so make sure you nominate the hard working ones for Service to the Community – Organisation Award. Nominate as many as you can for the Recognition of Outstanding Event Award and then vote for your favourite in January for the People’s Choice Awards.”

The NSW Local Citizenship Award categories for 2016 are:

  • Volunteer of the Year Award (Young Citizen and Open Citizen)
  • Achievement Award (Young Citizen and Open Citizen)
  • Service to the Community – Organisation Award
  • Recognition of Outstanding Event Award

The Volunteer of the Year Award is for people who have given their time freely to help the community. The Achievement Award is for those who have excelled in their chosen field which may include academia, business, the arts and sciences or community service. The Young Citizen Category of these awards is for people between the ages of 16 and 26 while the Open Category is for all ages over 16 years.

The Service to the Community – Organisation Award is for organisations which aim to enrich the lives of the people in the Lithgow area.  This organisation does not have to be a volunteer organisation.  The Recognition of Outstanding Event Award will be given in recognition of the many events in Lithgow that are making such a difference to our town. Once nominations have been received, the public will be asked to vote on their favourite event with the results to be revealed on Australia Day 2016.

Nomination forms are available from the front counter of the Lithgow City Council Administration Centre, at all Lithgow Library Branches and online at http://council.lithgow.com/australia-day/ . Nominations are now open and close on Wednesday 23 December 2015. Voting for the People’s Choice Event of the Year will open on Wednesday 13 January 2016 and close on Friday 22 January 2016. Winners of all awards will be announced at the Australia Day Ceremony from 4.00-5.00pm on Tuesday 26 January 2016 in Queen Elizabeth Park.

Providing a range of programs celebrating the cultural diversity and rich heritage of our local government area through the delivery of a diverse range of quality festivals and events is part of Council’s strategy to Care for our Community in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
