The gravity mountain bike crowd and events promoter Rocky Trail Entertainment will literally descend into Lithgow this weekend for the RedAss Downhill State Series Finale.
Competitors and their families and supporters from all over NSW and the ACT will arrive from Friday and entrants will have the opportunity to do practice runs. After a final track inspection, seeding race runs will commence on Sunday at 11:30am with final race runs estimated to start at 1:30pm. The RedAss Downhill State Series Finale will take place on Sunday, 15 October 2017 on the Pony Express track of the local Central Tablelands Mountain Bike Club with its event centre at the Lithgow Pony Club on Hassans Walls Road.
Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie said “It’s great to see that the Downhill State Series Final will be held in Lithgow as it will attract lots of riders and will support our local Mountain Bike Club.”
In the Elite Men's it will be a showdown between Hamish Cowan and Central Coast's Duke Millington who are on the same amount of series points after four rounds so far. Lithgow's own Joel Willis sits in fourth place ahead of the final round on his home track. Local rider Zack Hutchison is also racing for podium positions, currently he is third in the Under 19's category. In the Elite Women's, Campbelltown's Kellie Weinert holds a solid lead. It will be an action-packed weekend and an exciting opportunity to watch the performances of the state's top downhill athletes.
