The current program of rural roads gravel resheeting projects throughout the Lithgow local government area is currently underway.
On the 26 February 2018, Lithgow City Council commenced the process of renewing a number of rural unsealed road assets to completely restore their condition to the standard expected by the wider community. It is believed that this work will greatly improve the drivability of these rural, unsealed roads.
On the 26 February 2018, Council contractors commenced the process of upgrading Cullenbengong Road, Kanimbla from the intersection of Ganbenang Road to the 6 Foot Track Gate. Similarly, on the 12 March 2018, the renewal of the entire length of Bonaventure Road, Mt. Lambie will commence. Within the month of March, contractors will also commence the upgrade of Irondale Road, Portland (including the seal of the intersection with Pipers Flat Road) and Old Western Road, Mt. Lambie.
This gravel resheeting project not only includes the restoration of the road surface but also includes the capital upgrade and improvement of associated stormwater infrastructure and reductions to roadside vegetation. It is expected that this work will not only reduce required maintenance work into the future but also increase the safety and longevity of these assets in line with increasing traffic usage throughout the area.
Residents are urged to note that traffic conditions may change in these areas while the improvements occur. Please exhibit caution and patience while travelling through the area.
