Senator Kristina Keneally goes ‘into bat’ for Lithgow, Regional and Rural Councils.

Two weeks after “breakfasting” with Lithgow Councilors at the Tin Shed in Lithgow discussing Lithgow’s problems, Senator Kristina Keneally has formally raised the issue of a more equitable consideration of Federal Assistance Grants for regional and rural councils with the responsible Federal Government Ministers in Canberra.

“Cr Cass Coleman arranged the meeting with Kristina, the Deputy Mayor and myself to discuss employment, mental health services, our coal industry, and revenue sources including the Federal Assistance Grants, and the Senator has already acted on some issues which is extremely pleasing” said the Mayor Cr Stephen Lesslie.

“At the same time these issues were raised with the Senator, Council formally canvassed assistance from our Local Member Mr Andrew Gee, and we are hopeful that he may be able to assist in having the Lithgow Council’s voice heard at arranged meetings with a range of Federal Ministers in June this year” said the Mayor.
