Lithgow City Council and the combined Church groups wish to invite the community to a memorial “Service of Hope” which will be held at the Community Centre Portland on Sunday 20th September 2015 at 2.30pm. Following the service, Council will host an afternoon tea.
“The memorial is hoped to unite our community, coming together after the recent tragedies felt by people in the area,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham.
“My sincerest sympathy is extended to the families who have lost loved ones under tragic circumstances during the last weeks and to the Cummins family who have endured the loss of their home in a recent fire.”
“Our emergency services, police, ambulance officers, hospital staff, teachers, Council staff, Michael and Jeannine Brown and their wonderful staff at Kerry Linegar, and the brave community members who provided assistance at the scenes have also endured a grueling time.”
“We must never forget the people who deal with trauma in their line of duty and serve our community so selflessly, the community support that I have witnessed is incredible, thank you for the amazing support that you have shown to the families that have experienced incredible suffering”.
“I encourage the community to attend this service and show their support for the families and those involved in the recent tragedies” concluded Mayor Statham.
