Lithgow City Council has allocated funding and is seeking grant funds from the NSW Government to upgrade skateparks in Wallerawang and Portland.
Following consultation with youth and community organisations in Wallerawang and Portland it became apparent that there was a need to develop quality facilities for young people in those communities. As a result, Council has allocated $200,000 in the current financial year for the upgrade of Wallerawang and Portland Skate Parks.
Since then, Council has sought quotes from Skate Park manufacturers for design and construction and, to ensure that we get the best outcome for young people, Council is applying for funding to supplement Council’s funding allocation.
“It is unfortunate that Council’s funding requests to the NSW Community Building Partnership program for these skateparks have been unsuccessful,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie. “Council is not daunted though, as we understand that young people in these communities deserve better facilities,” continued the Mayor.
Council intends to submit further grant applications in coming months to ensure these projects get underway, with works hopefully to commence later in 2018.
