Thank A Volunteer Day a Great Success!

A “Thank A Volunteer Day” was held recently in the Courtyard Gallery of Eskbank House and Museum, attended by many volunteers from local organisations.

Over fifty volunteers from different organisations attended the event where they were able to meet other volunteers, exchange thoughts and share their stories about volunteering. The diversity of the local voluntary sector was on show with volunteers from big and small organisations, from government agencies and not-for-profit community agencies, including those who make a difference on the many boards and committees that exist in our town.

“It was very heart-warming being surrounded by so many local volunteers,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham. “Volunteers and volunteer organisations are the cornerstone of our community. Without organisations such as the Lions Club, Lithgow Tidy Towns, Lithgow Men’s Shed, the Volunteer Rescue Association, Uniting Care and many more, our town would not be the same.”

Following a warm welcome by the Mayor, the event included ‘around-the-room’ information sharing, where volunteers briefly spoke about their role in the community.

Volunteers Sue Graves from Lithgow Tidy Towns and Maggie from Eskbank House & Museum also spoke about their personal volunteering experiences and the sense of achievement, wellness and joy it has provided them with. Students from the Lithgow Mitchell Conservatorium also entertained guests with the blissful sounds of the violin, xylophone, piano, flute and song.

The day ended with a scrumptious afternoon tea and a networking session where ideas were exchanged and new connections were forged. Guests left the event feeling inspired and secure in the knowledge that Lithgow is a town that cares.

Celebrating and growing volunteering in our local government area is part of Council’s Caring for our Community strategies in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
