Winners of the 2018 Waste 2 Art Competition Announced

Winners of the 2018 Waste 2 Art competition were announced by the Mayor on Saturday 19th May at Eskbank House Museum.

Local artists of all ages, including entries from Lithgow Secondary School and Portland Central School, responded to the challenge of creating artwork from materials that would otherwise be discarded as rubbish and end up in landfill. The Waste 2 Art competition and exhibition, a Netwaste initiative, seeks to raise awareness of environmental issues.

“I’m always impressed to see how this competition continues to grow each year. It’s particularly wonderful that art is being utilised to talk about waste issues with young children. The winning artworks demonstrate the talent and creativity within our community, and I wish our artists luck at the Regional competition,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie.

The high standard of entries and the creative responses to the theme of reusing waste materials made it a difficult task for the judges – Sharon Howard, Director of Gang Gang Gallery, and Nigel Campbell, Waste & Recycling Coordinator for Lithgow City Council.
