The Program
The Youth Scholarship Program was established by the Lithgow Youth Council and funded by Centennial Coal to assist young people with the cost of further study.
The Youth Scholarship Program helps young people overcome some of the financial barriers associated with further study. Young people can apply for a scholarship of $500 to cover the costs of texts books, internet connection, fees, travel, and/ or other course related material.
Who Can Apply?
Residents living in the Lithgow LGA aged between 16-25 years and attending Tafe or University in one of the following LGA’s – Lithgow, Bathurst or the Blue Mountains.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they are currently enrolled in local post- secondary education and be experiencing financial hardship in relation to meeting their educational costs. This can be in the form of a letter of support or a copy of your Centrelink card. Note, the letter of support can be from a variety of sources, including your lecturer, counsellor, church leader, youth leader, or a community worker based at the local Information and Neighbourhood Centre.
How often can you apply?
Scholarships applications are open year round and are awarded on a case by case basis. Students may apply for scholarships twice a year.
Selection Process
Applications for scholarships will be considered by Council’s Community Development Team on an ongoing basis throughout the year, and you are able to apply at any time. There currently is no closing date for the Youth Scholarship application form.

The information you provide will be used to assess your application and/or for evaluation and reporting purposes. No names will be disclosed.
