Youth Week 2017 Events A Huge Success!

The Lithgow Youth Week 2017 events were celebrated in style at the Lithgow Library with a Manga Workshop and demos at the Lithgow Skate Park this past week.

Matt Lin worked with Manga and anime enthusiasts to hone their drawing skills and develop their style, while Newton’s Nation thrilled crowds with spectacular BMX and scooter demonstrations. “The Youth Week celebrations this year presented young people with a fantastic day out and an opportunity to hone their skills and express their creativity,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lesslie.

The Manga Workshop at the Library was booked out and was a huge success. Participants learned new techniques from expert artist Matt Lin, which included step-by-step demonstrations on how to draw manga characters, techniques for adding color and shading to characters, instructions for creating scenes within a story and advice on how to get published.

Meanwhile at the skate park, professional coaches from Newton’s Nation worked with young people to develop their skateboarding and BMX skills and increase athletic ability. “These guys are amazing. Watching them is quite an experience. I feel inspired by the coaches and am glad to be here today,” said one of the participants. Jack Zammit, one of the coaches from Newton’s Nation said, “the young people here today are such an awesome group. It’s great seeing them hone their skills, support each other and simply enjoy this day”.

The Youth Week events provided young people with an opportunity to immerse themselves in a creative form, to tap into free flowing expression to showcase their abilities and, to become involved in their community.
