Council is currently seeking nominations in a range of categories for the 2020 Ability Awards.
Nominations are now open for the Lithgow Ability Awards, which showcase the many outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the Lithgow region who make positive contributions towards social inclusion.
The categories include:
The Mastery award– for individuals with a disability who have achieved mastery in their field. This could be music, art, education their chosen career or any other area of interest.
Community Spirit Award – This award will be presented to a person with a disability. This individual exhibits community or nonprofit leadership advocating for the rights and needs of people with a disability.
NEW THIS YEAR!! Covid Innovation award: This award recognizes a community group, service or individual who has made innovative changes to their project, program or service to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities in our community during the unprecedented changes of 2020.
Volunteer of the Year Award – This award recognises the significant contribution to volunteering that a person with a disability has made to the community.
Sport, Health and Wellbeing Award – This award recognises sport, health and wellbeing programs /services that are creating equal access for persons with disabilities.
Business/employer Award – This award recognises businesses that have improved access to their business to welcome and cater for disabled customers whether it is physical access such as a ramp or user friendly access such as online ordering, large print resources or specialised staff. It may also be awarded to a business that has an exceptional record of disability friendly practices, including hiring persons with disabilities, making reasonable accommodations and demonstrating efforts beyond simple compliance.
