DESCRIPTION:Clean out your household chemicals the right way!\nCouncil holds the household cleanout event for the safe disposal of household chemicals. The Household Chemical Cleanout will take place on Sunday\, 13 September 2026 from 9am-12pm. \nPlease note the event will be located within the Resource Recovery Centre\, at the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility \nDate:              Sunday\, 13 September 2026\nTime:               9am – 12pm\nLocation:        Resource Recovery Centre\n                        Lithgow Solid Waste Facility\,\n                        68 Geordie Street\, Lithgow. \nThe following household chemicals and items are accepted in household quantities: \n(Some of these items can also be dropped off throughout the year at the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) which is open 7 days/week within the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility) \n\nAcids and alkalis\nAmmonia-based cleaners\nFloor care products\nhousehold cleaners & solvents\nPesticides\, herbicides & poisons\nPool chemicals & hobby chemicals\nCooking oils (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nMotor fuels and oils (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nCar & household batteries (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nFluorescent globes and tubes (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nSmoke detectors (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nPaint and paint-related products (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nGas bottles (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\nFire extinguishers (accepted at the CRC\, 7 days/week)\n\nPlease note: Household quantities are 20kg or 20L of a single item\, except for paint which will be accepted in 20L containers up to a maximum of 100 litres. \nRemember when coming to the Household Chemical CleanOut: \n\nHandle and transport chemicals carefully.\nNever mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions.\nKeep all chemicals in their original containers whenever possible.\nSeal all containers and make sure containers are clearly labelled.\nIf you are unsure about the contents of a container\, label the container ‘unknown chemical’.\nWhen transporting chemicals make sure containers holding liquids are securely wrapped in newspaper\, placed in sturdy plastic bags and the bags are placed in plastic buckets or trays.\nKeep household chemicals away from passengers\, for example\, by placing them in the boot of your car.\n\n
