Lake Pillans Works
Major Project Update Lake Pillans Works
Lithgow City Council recently awarded a tender to Better View Landscapes Pty Ltd for $632,255 to undertake carparking, pathway and landscape works at Lake Pillans Wetlands.
The scope of works includes;
- Constructing an asphalt pavement carpark with parking for 11 vehicles including 2 accessible carparking spaces
- Vehicle bollards to prevent vehicle access to the reserve
- Widening existing pathways to pedestrian/cycle path standard where achievable.
- Pathway gradient improvements for accessibility.
- Landscaping works.
The works aim to improve public amenity and safety and to protect the reserve’s natural values by formalising carparking and restricting vehicle access elsewhere. Currently, vehicles are regularly driven into the reserve causing damage and making it unsafe for other users.
Construction of accessible pathways from the new carpark aim to make it safer and more accessible for older people and people with disabilities to enjoy the wetlands.
Widening of pathways to pedestrian/cycle path standard will connect the Farmers Creek shared pathway network to Blast Furnace via Lake Pillans.
Lake Pillans Wetlands is a popular destination that is enjoyed by many members of the community for walking, cycling, fishing and picnicking. Sitting adjacent to the Blast Furnace industrial heritage ruins, Lake Pillans forms part of the Farmers Creek recreational precinct shared path network that extends from Lake Pillans west for approximately 6 kilometres.
Many visitors to Lithgow spend time at Lake Pillans, Blast Furnace and Farmers Creek.
Council anticipates that the works will commence in July and take approximately 4 months to complete. During the works, public access to some areas will be restricted.
The works have been funded through Round 5 of the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund
