Lithgow City Council is responsible for 975km roads, 48 bridges, 130km of Footpaths & Cycleways and 279 kerb & gutter. These are the projects we are currently working on.

Atkinson Street/State Mine Gully Road, Lithgow

NPWS are planning to undertake roadworks on the State Mine Gully Road access into the State Conservation Area. The nature of the works will mean that a full closure of State Mine Gully Road is required on weekdays, reopening on weekends. The works may take up to 10 weeks with the current start date planned for June 11th.
Visitors to the park are advised to use Old Bells Line of Road as their primary access to the park.
Key details
- State Mine Gully Road will be closed on weekdays from Tuesday 11th June to Friday 23rd August 2024.
- State Mine Gully Road will be open on weekends during this period (Open 6:00pm Friday to 6:00am Monday).
- Visitors are advised to use Old Bells Line of Road as the primary access into the park instead.

Update April 2024
This work has been scoped for inclusion as part of the broader Gardens of Stone development as the asset will require upgrade prior to the delivery of this project. The project has been costed at approximately $4million. The council continues to advocate for external State Government funding from the $50M allocated to Gardens of Stone to deliver this project.

Coalbrook/Geordie Street (including Wear Street), Lithgow
Repair and renew the road pavement of Coalbrook Street, Geordie Street and Wear Street with a total length of approximately 1400 lineal metres. Note: this program is rolled over from 2022/23. |
Project Start: 6 May 2024 Sealing is complete. There is still work to be done to raise some of the service covers on Coalbrook Street and these will be done as soon as the contractor is available. 29/05/2024
17 May 2024 Residents are asked that they park their cars either in their driveways or off Coalbrook Street to allow the works to be completed. There will be traffic controllers on site so if cars need to be moved residents can talk to them at the time. Works will start at 7.00pm and be completed by 6.00am for the night shifts and the day shift will be between 7.00am and be completed by 5.00pm. 07 May 2024Coalbrook Street Lithgow- Nightworks commencing Sunday, 12th May. Roadworks will be commencing on Sunday night, 12th May at 7pm on Coalbrook Street between Davy Street and Sandford Avenue. Weather permitting, the work will be completed by Thursday, 16th May. The works include the profiling of the edge of the road near the gutters, laying a 10mm spray seal over the width of the road and then a layer of asphalt to top that. All works will be night shift except for Monday daytime where the spray seal will be applied. Works will be undertaken between 7.00pm and 6.00am for the night shifts and the day shift will be between 7.00am and 5.00pm. Residents are asked to park their cars either in their driveways or off Coalbrook Street to allow the works to be completed. There will be traffic controllers on site, so if cars need to be moved residents can talk to them at the time. Council acknowledges the inconvenience to residents in Coalbrook Street while these important works are being undertaken and thanks them for their patience. Glen Davis Causeway - replacement

The funds have been reallocated to other priority projects consistent with the grant funding guidelines. The community will be consulted on an alternative option. (Q2 Budget review – Council Meeting 26 Feb 2024 – Min. No. 23-34) Causeway repair and construction: The council has submitted an application for replacement of the Glen Davis Causeway bridge for $2,122,836 under Disaster Ready Fund Round 2 and is awaiting advise on the outcome of this application. |

High Street, Portland
Stabilisation and renewal of 5020m of road from Williwa Street to Roxburgh Street. |
Project Start: 26 August 2024 (weather permitting) 17 Sept 2024 On Thursday 19th September, High Street Portland, Between Roxburgh and Williwa Streets, will be closed from 7.00am to 4.30pm for road sealing. Residents along this stretch of road will be able to access their properties but will need to let the traffic controllers know as they are about to leave/arrive. There will be detours in place for traffic to go around the site, minor delays can be expected. This will conclude the major works for this section of road, with line marking to occur over the next few weeks to finalise the works. Should you have any questions please contact Council on 6354 9999. Update: 09 August 2024 The works will take approximately 4 weeks during which time residents are asked to not park on the road shoulders between 7.30 and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Residents in High Street will receive a detailed letter prior to works commencing. Blackmans Creek Road, Hartley – Renewal
Renew road, from Great Western Highway to end, (2600 metres), with 1500 metres sealed and 1100 metres unsealed. Lithgow Street, Lithgow - Renewal
The renewal of Lithgow Street, Lithgow, from Proto Avenue to Mort Street. A distance of 450 metres and 6000 square metres. This project will see the removal of the current road surface and replaced with a new surface with the renewal of line marking and any signage that needs replacing. |
Project Start: 29 Sept 2024 Line marking has been booked and will be undertaken as soon as the contractor is available. 24 Sept 2024 Lithgow Street resealing- The Lithgow Street reseal, between Proto Avenue and Mort Street will be commencing on Sunday 29th September at 7.00PM and be running for the following 3 and possibly 4 nights. The road will be closed in sections to allow traffic to flow during the works. Once these works have been completed the road will be line marked in the following 2 weeks. 23 July 2024 |

Main Street / Cupro Street - Stormwater Drainage improvement
Triplication of stormwater infrastructure capacity from Main Street to Farmers Creek. Stage 1: Installation of two new 900mm concrete pipes from Farmers Creek through to the rail line. Stage 2: Under boring of the rail line to connect Stage 1 of the project through to an array of new inlets on Main Street |

Maintenance Grading
Maintenance works to gravel roads |
Phase: In progress Grading has been completed on Old Bindo Road, Biddys Pinch Road and Jerrys Meadows Road. Works are continuing on Genowlan Road and Huntingdale Road which should be completed within the next 2 weeks, the grading team will then be moving onto the unsealed roads in Glen Davis.
The shoulder slashing will be continuing on the Portland Cullen Bullen Road and will be continuing on other roads in the area. 24 Sept 2024

The road will have the drainage lines reinstated, the road resheeted and the road resealed from Magpie Hollow Road to Hampton Road. The works are expected to take 5-6 weeks, weather permitting. Project Start: Ongoing Road patching will be occurring on Magpie Hollow Road, Hampton Road, Glen Davis Road, Glen Alice Road and Sodwalls Road, as well as other locations as required. 17 May 2024Council has been working on roads in the Tarana area, repairing damaged road surfaces on Sodwalls, Diamond Swamp and Tarana Road. The site will be left for a few weeks for the stabilised area to settle. Sealing of the site will then take place completing the works. Update: 31 May 2024 Works have started on Coxs River Road as a part of the Roads to Recovery program, these works will repair the road pavement, clear the open drains at the side of the road and reseal the road through to the Dudewarra bridge. Sealing may be delayed due to the temperature but will be sealed as soon as the temperatures rise. |

7 May 2024: Sealing of the road is scheduled to be undertaken in the next 2 weeks (weather permitting). 16 April 2024: Sealing to be undertaken within the next 3-4 weeks (weather dependent) 4 April 2024: Work has commenced with the old road surface being removed, road base is being added in preparation for sealing. 26 March 2024: Works will commence on the rehabilitation of the road base and reseal of Brays Lane. The works will run from Blackberry Lane to house number 137 and access to this section of road will be for residents only during work hours, 7.30 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. |

Road works are continuing on Wolgan Road with footpath works expected to be completed by the end of next week. Sealing dates for this road have been pushed back due to the recent rainfall, contractor availability will determine when the sealing commences. Tuesday 7 May 2024The road works are well underway with sealing of the road scheduled to be undertaken in the next 2-3 weeks (weather permitting).
