The Council has recently received the findings of a public safety risk assessment for the Bowenfels anti-aircraft gun emplacements. The report advised of safety risks present at the site which should be urgently mitigated with fencing. while a long-term safety plan is developed then implemented.
The Council has installed temporary exclusion fencing around the Gun Emplacements site until actions to reduce or control the risks can be implemented, without modifying the valuable and unique historical assets.
The decision to restrict access to the Gun Emplacements site has been made in the interest of public safety.
The Council will work with individuals and groups who seek access to the Gun Emplacements for memorial or research purposes while we work through the management of the on-site risks.
