No one wants to waste food but in our homes we may be wasting more than we think. The Great Unwaste Day on 29 September encourages every household to take a small step to reduce food waste because, together, we can make a huge impact.
The Great Unwaste has found that if every household in Australia stopped wasting edible food for just one day this would result in:
- 5,000 tonnes of food saved
- CO₂ savings to power 4,500 homes for a year
- $53 million back in our economy
Reducing food waste is a great way for households to save money and time, with food waste estimated to be costing Australian households more than $2,500 per year.
