This afternoon to commemorate NAIDOC Week, Council welcomed the community to reflect, honour, and celebrate the strength and leadership of First Nations peoples in our community at a flag raising ceremony.
The event opened with a Welcome to Country from Aunty Kim Usher.
Mayor Cassandra Coleman then paid respect to the Elders, and community leaders who work to protect culture, care for Country, and uplift the next generation.
Aunty Helen Riley and Judith Harding then raised the Aboriginal flag.
At the conclusion of the flag raising ceremony attendees were invited to the Central West Adaptive Skills Hub for an afternoon tea.
The flag raising ceremony is important time to reflect on what NAIDOC means to each of us and how we can carry its message forward.
