Parking Arrangements for Lithgow Show / NSW Basketball Championships

This year, two (2) major events will be held within the Tony Luchetti Sportsground Precinct on the weekend of 14 – 16 March, both the Annual Lithgow Show and the NSW Waratah Western Junior League basketball championship.

Council has worked with the Lithgow Show Society and the Lithgow Basketball Association to implement a parking plan in the area to reduce the number of parking conflicts and improve safety for the increase in both motorists and pedestrians expected in the area over the weekend

There are a number of restricted and untimed parking areas available for people attending both events.

Council is encouraging motorists to slow down in Barton Street, George Coates Avenue, James Street, Wylde Street, Fred Burley Drive, Longworth Street and Hughes Street this weekend as there will be increased pedestrian activity, including vulnerable pedestrians such as children and mobility impaired community members.

Free parking (unlimited time) areas are available in the following areas:

Parking Near Driveways and Intersections (14)

Motorists are reminded that it is illegal to park within 10 metres either side of an intersection, within 0.5m of a driveway access and on side of the street facing the incorrect direction of traffic flow.

Council and NSW Police will be patrolling the area to ensure that parking is undertaken legally to ensure that traffic flows smoothly and safely within the precinct area during these events

Pedestrian Reminder

Pedestrians are reminded that cars are not required to give way to them when crossing roads in this area, and road crossing needs to be conducted in a safe manner, especially by vulnerable community members such as children and mobility impaired.

General Advice

General parking congestion is expected within the precinct, as well as at the following major intersections:

  • George Coates Avenue and Main Street
  • James Street and Main Street

Motorists are reminded not to queue across intersections, and to take an alternative route if possible
