Reuse Shed
Reuse Shed
The Reuse Shed accepts items in good condition.
The items in the reuse shed are available for other people to take for personal use.
Where is the Reuse Shed?
The Reuse Shed is located within the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility at 68 Geordie Street, Lithgow.
When is the Reuse Shed open?
The opening hours of the Reuse Shed are not the same as the opening hours of the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility.
The Reuse Shed operates as follows:
Opening hours: 10.30am – 4.00pm
Opening days: Wednesday – Sunday
Public Holidays: The Reuse Shed is closed on any day that the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility is closed.
Items can be dropped off for the Reuse Shed in the containers provided, even when the Reuse Shed is closed (please see below).
When can I drop off items for the Reuse Shed?
Items can be dropped off for the Reuse Shed at any time during the opening hours of the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility.
The opening hours for the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility can be found under ‘Waste Facilities’ at this link: https://council.lithgow.com/waste-recycling/waste-facilities/
The opening hours of the Reuse Shed are not the same as the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility; however, containers are provided for items to be left for the Reuse Shed during the times when it is not open.
Why have a Reuse Shed?
Lithgow City Council is committed to improving landfill diversion rates and supporting the community’s transition towards a circular economy to protect the health of our residents, our environment and our local economy.
The Reuse Shed empowers the community to reduce waste and divert waste that cannot be avoided from landfill by providing residents with a place to put items in good condition for others to use, instead of placing them directly into landfill.
Since the Reuse Shed started in August 2023, over 270 tonnes of material has been diverted from landfill. This is an excellent result; however, the priority for waste management is to avoid generating waste in the first place.
The Reuse Shed is part of a waste facility and the items dropped off would have been wasted without this opportunity to avoid landfill; however, not every item can be accepted in the Reuse Shed and items that are not taken by other people will be disposed of.
Upgrades to the Reuse Shed
The Reuse Shed was upgraded in 2025 to improve the operational performance and the experience of those using the service.
The upgrades included traffic flow and parking improvements, the installation of security cameras and the separation of drop-off and display areas.
The new operating hours provide staff with time to manage the items that are dropped off, supervise the display area and perform their other essential tasks at the facility.
