Lithgow Council reminds residents about how to correctly dispose of ‘Construction and Demolition’ waste. Construction and demolition waste is prohibited at rural landfills and transfer stations and is only accepted at Lithgow Solid Waste Facility. Fees apply for the disposal of all construction and demolition waste, even if it is from your residence.
Construction and demolition waste includes all building and landscaping materials. For example, timber, plasterboard, kitchen cabinets, bathroom fittings, doors, windows, bricks, concrete, rocks, and soil are all classified as Construction & Demolition waste.
The fee for the disposal of construction and demolition waste is not new, however, Council is aware that there is some confusion about this fee when residents are disposing of building and landscaping materials that have come from their home.
While residents can dispose of domestic waste from their home free of charge, construction and demolition waste materials are not classified as domestic waste, even when they are from your home.
The classification of construction and demolition waste is established by the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA) Waste Classification Guidelines. The waste classifications apply to all councils in NSW and compliance with the guidelines is important to ensure that more valuable materials are recycled, and that waste is managed in a way that is consistent and fair.
