Main Street CBD – Temporary Road / Footpath Closure
Works on the Main Street Central Business District Footpath Revitalisation project are in the final stages, with work expected to be completed at the end of April 2026.
The remaining two (2) components of the projects include:
- Construction of a raised pedestrian crossing at the eastern end of Main Street (at existing pedestrian crossing location),
- Drainage improvements,
- Improved accessible parking and loading zone space,
The works require a full road / footpath closure of the eastern end of Main Street, near the Bridge Street intersection. It is expected that this closure will be for a five (5) day period, from 5.00am on Monday, 13 April 2026 through until 6.00pm on Friday, 17th April 2026 (weather dependent).
The closure will allow machinery to work safely and ensure the works can be completed as quickly as possible. Motorist will be able to access Main Street from the Eskbank Street intersection, however, will be required to do a U turn in the existing bus zone to exit the section of Main Street by returning to the Eskbank Street intersection.

Pedestrians will be able to cross the road safely at a temporary crossing provided adjacent to the worksite, that will be barricaded for pedestrian safety. This crossing will not be suitable for use by people with mobility restrictions, who will need to continue west in Main Street to safely cross at the traffic lights on the Eskbank Street intersection.

This work also requires the temporary relocation of two (2) bus zones during construction, and Lithgow Bus Lines have been consulted regarding this. Current bus services will not be disrupted during the works, however, buses will detour via Railway Parade, with the bus stops being relocated to the eastern end of Railway Parade (near the Tank Street intersection).

Garbage collection services to the public, business and residential bins in this area will not be impacted during the closure.
Future progression of works will then include the southern (Mort Street) side of Main Street from Bridge Street to Eskbank Street, and then block sections of the Central Business District will continue to be designed and constructed through to the Lithgow Street intersection, when funding is secured.
Whilst businesses, residents and the community will be temporarily impacted by construction works, these works have been programmed to minimise impacts as much as possible. Disruption of access to businesses will be minimised during the construction phase. Businesses are encouraged to contact Mr Ryan Meads (Civil Construction Pty Ltd) on 0407 601 362 to discuss any specific concerns they may have regarding the construction works.
